Malaffi is the first health information exchange in the MENA region, developed as part of the strategic Public Private Partnership (PPP) between the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DOH) and Injazat. In line with the UAE’s national agenda, it facilitates the move to a more unified, patient-centric approach to healthcare and is an integral part of the digital transformation of the healthcare system in Abu Dhabi.
Based on international best practices and industry standards, Malaffi is a digital platform that connects the electronic health records of patients, across all healthcare providers in Abu Dhabi to create a “single patient record” enabling patients’ healthcare providers to provide care with continuity. Clinicians are empowered with real-time visibility into the patient’s longitudinal record, enabling them to make better-informed decisions, and improve quality of care and outcomes.
The platforms benefits include improved healthcare coordination and collaboration between providers; a reduction in unnecessary and duplicate diagnostic procedures and interventions; a decrease in medical errors, especially around medications and allergies; and prompt preventative interventions based on key flags to promote healthy living.
Ultimately, Malaffi will connect more than 2,000 public and private healthcare facilities in Abu Dhabi. This includes all hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories, dental centers, home care and rehabilitation centres, ensuring medical teams have instant access to important information at every point of care.
This data-led digital transformation will help the Department of Health to perform population health analytics and identify trends throughout the Emirate, enabling further enhancement of healthcare services and the development of public health programs, such as preventative health education and management of chronic diseases.
